A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of the third adventure in C. S. Lewis' classic Narnia series.
Life in a small fishing village in the south of Calormen is all that young Shasta knows until, one day, he overhears his father planning to sell him into slavery to a stranger and discovers that he is not a fisherman's son after all. Things become even more surprising when the stranger's horse starts to have a conversation with him!
Shasta dicovers that the horse is called Bree, and that he comes from a magical land in the North. Together they decide to flee Calormen and slavery and head for the freedom of that land – Narnia. So begins a hazardous journey, fraught with mystery and danger. They must endure a harsh desert, climb the high mountains of Archenland and overcome many enemies before they reach their destination.
Join Shasta on an adventure beyond his wildest dreams in this third thrilling instalment of The Chronicles of Narnia.
Starring James Graves as Shasta, Martin Jarvis as Bree, Fiona Shaw as Hwin and Stephen Thorne as Aslan.

Fleeing a cruel master, orphan Shasta teams up with two talking horses and an arrogant, aristocratic girl on the run from a forced marriage. Bickering among themselves, the four adventurers face many dangers. Their destination is Narnia (first introduced in Lewis's THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE), a land where dwarves, giants, centaurs, talking animals, and humans live in freedom and harmony. With crisp pacing and accent, Alex Jennings heightens drama and illuminates humor in perfect measure. He brings sprightly characters to life with obvious affection. Like other books in the Narnia series, this one can be enjoyed as a simple fantasy adventure; for others, Lewis's allegorical Christian message will be of interest. E.S. In a dazzling dramatization of heraldry and heroes, another version of C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia comes to life. With sound effects that instantly transport one and a diverse cast taking each of the parts, Narnia unfolds and draws listeners in. The BBC cast includes such audiobook luminaries as Martin Jarvis, Fiona Shaw, Garard Green and Stephen Thorne. For seasoned audiophiles it's pure delight to recognize the voice of an actor within a full-cast production. It's a bit like recognizing an old friend. For those new to listening, especially a family, any one of this Narnia series is a perfect place to start. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe or Prince Caspian may be the best known, but each offers charm and adventure. R.F.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
