WE’RE STILL HERE • Since the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan in 2021, women have had their rights and their humanity relentlessly and devastatingly stripped away. This year, they were suddenly banished from public spaces; women are no longer allowed to leave their home unless it’s urgent, and even then must have a male chaperone. They must also veil their bodies, including their faces. They are not allowed to speak in public. They are not allowed to sing in their homes. They must not laugh. Women are being erased from existence, but as our anonymous author, who still lives under Taliban rule, wants to remind the world: they’re still here. They will not be silenced.

A matter of LIFE & DEATH • With one in three Australian women experiencing birth trauma, we have reached crisis point. But a recent parliamentary inquiry is looking to bring change. Adrienne Tam reports

MISSY’S SECOND ACT • It’s been two decades since Missy Higgins rejected the formula for female pop artists and put out an album deemed not commercially viable. That album, The Sound of White, soundtracked the lives of women across the nation and went on to be certified platinum 12 times. Now, on the back of a new album, a sold-out tour and a personal reckoning, the artist is ready to sing a different tune

DEEP FAKE DATES • When you hear ‘romance scam’, you think stolen money. But as Amy Molloy discovers, that’s not always the motivation

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE DATE

A NEW STOLEN GENERATION • Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts is a mum, a human rights lawyer and the ACT’s inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People Commissioner. And she was stolen

For LOVE & MONEY (and a rental) • With solo home ownership being pushed out of reach, will the cost-of-living crisis see a resurgence of what one economist has dubbed “Jane Austen marriages”, where property and wealth are just as important as true love? By Rebecca Mitchell

THE IMITATION GAME • Dupe culture has come for Australian designers. Kathryn Madden wonders if that’s high praise or a legal nightmare

Ariella Glaser • The 19-year-old British actor shares the experience of landing the role of a lifetime

The GIRL BOSS • As the Australian adaption of The Office hits our screens, comedian Felicity Ward reveals...
